Who uses Mobile for Email?

Julie Katz at Forrester Research provided this information from a recent publication on the demographic breakdown of mobile users who use their phone to check email:

“A handful of online mobile phone owners — 15% — currently use their phones to send and receive email at least monthly. But we expect this trend to grow: 35% of US adults who use email — but not mobile email — believe that they have phones with email capabilities.1 In 2007, less than 10% of mobile subscribers used mobile email at least weekly — today 12% use mobile email at least weekly. Because mobile email usage will continue to grow.”

More US adults will start to use their cell phones for email and engage their usage for retail research for products and services while on the go. There will be larger opportunities for retailers to take advantage of this space to promote in-store specials and offerings. Here come the Blackberry and iPhone moms.
